The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing back a key depth player for the third consecutive season.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Chiefs are set to re-sign veteran S Deon Bush on a one-year deal. This is the third consecutive one-year contract for Bush in Kansas City. A former fourth-round draft pick by the Chicago Bears in the 2016 NFL draft out of the University of Miami (FL), Bush will return for a ninth NFL season in 2024.
The 30-year-old is a valued special teamer in Kansas City with 437 special teams snaps since 2022. He proved his value on the defensive side of the ball this season as well, playing over 20 defensive snaps ahead of Super Bowl LVIII when the team dealt with injuries at the safety position.
Bush even had the game-sealing interception vs. the Ravens in the AFC Championship Game.
He'll continue to be a key contributor and depth piece for Kansas City. He could even have a place in the rotation as Bryan Cook gets his bearings after a season-ending injury.
This move could signal the departure of S Mike Edwards, who is a free agent after signing a one-year deal with the Chiefs in 2022.
