The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing back another member of their interior defensive line.

Sources confirm to A to Z Sports that DT Mike Pennel has agreed to a one-year deal with the Chiefs. The news was originally revealed by Chiefs LB Drue Tranquill, who let it slip during a recent press conference that Pennel would re-sign with the team.

This will mark Pennel's fourth campaign with Kansas City after joining the Chiefs in October 2019. Pennel played a pivotal role in Super Bowl LIV, improving the team's run defense during the final stretch of the season. He returned for a second campaign in 2020 and was with the team through Super Bowl LV's loss to the Buccaneers.

The Topeka, KS native left in 2021 and spent time with the Chicago Bears and the Atlanta Falcons. He returned to the practice squad in Kansas City during the middle of the 2023 NFL season and was elevated for several games late in the season and throughout the postseason.

In three seasons in Kansas City, Pennel appeared in 25 regular-season games with one start. He recorded 57 total tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, and three quarterback hits in that span. He also appeared in 10 playoff games with five starts, recording 20 total tackles, one tackle for loss, one pass batted, and a QB hit.
