The Kansas City Chiefs continue to sign practice squad players to reserve/future contracts following their Super Bowl LVIII win.
According to the NFL's personnel notice for Thursday, the team signed an additional three practice squad players to reserve/future contracts. They signed eight practice squad players to reserve/future deals on Wednesday.
The latest to rejoin the team for the 2024 NFL offseason are QB Chris Oladokun, OT Jason "Chu" Godrick, and TE Izaiah Gathings.
Oladokun is now in line to be the No. 2 quarterback in Kansas City, should Blaine Gabbert not re-sign with the team. He's been in the system for two seasons, spending time on the practice squad.
Godrick joined the team in 2023 through the international player pathway program. The Lagos, Nigeria native had a strong preseason and spent the entire year on the practice squad. Don't be surprised if Godrick is a key depth piece for Kansas City as early as next season.
Finally, Gathings spent time with the team during the 2023 offseason before his release during roster cuts. He caught on with the team again on the practice squad later during the year. Right now, he's one of only three tight ends on the 90-man offseason roster, but that will certainly change in the coming weeks.
Six practice squad players remain unsigned:
- TE Matt Bushman
- OL Darian Kinnard
- DT Mike Pennel
- WR Cornell Powell
- TE Gerrit Prince
- C Austin Reiter
This doesn't necessarily mean they won't re-sign with the team. Some players (like Mike Pennel, for instance) might command larger contracts, which could take more time to negotiate.
The total roster count is now up to 52 players on the 90-man offseason roster.
