The Kansas City Chiefs had a stellar first half against the Philadelphia Eagles. They had everything going for them; even the offense was clicking. They finished the first half with 17 points, and the defense allowed the Eagles to score just 7, despite the 'brotherly shove' play that is unstoppable for the Eagles.
But everything on offense came to a stuttering halt in the second half, much like we have seen for three straight weeks now. The Chiefs offense has yet to score in the second half in three straight weeks.
The Chiefs' weapons just did not show up in the second half. Whether it was Marquez Valdes-Scantling dropping a wide-open pass that would have taken the lead or Travis Kelce fumbling after a catch, nothing could go right.
"I have to be better," Kelce said in the locker room after the game. "I'm just not playing up to the level I have in the past. I have to be better."
Kelce was double-teamed frequently. When he came off the line, there were a few different times he had two defenders crashing him. And the Eagles were being physical, just as we know them to be. But that's nothing new for the Chiefs and their offense. They see defense like that every week. So, was it the Eagles?
"No. Turnovers," Kelce said when asked if the Eagles did anything differently. "Turnovers and penalties on our half. It's nothing that they [Eagles] did. It's all us."
The Chiefs continue to hurt themselves, and for the 10th game this season, it feels like the biggest talking point seems to be the drops of the receivers. When defenses take away Kelce, the Chiefs really have nothing else they can do consistently because receivers aren't doing their job, for the most part.
The Eagles' defense is good and likely one of the best in the league. However, I don't think it was them that did anything special.
