The Kansas City Chiefs defense is likely about to have its hardest task all season, where they will have to contain the likely MVP of the 2023 season, Lamar Jackson. He can run, he can throw, he can do it all.
But, coming into the game, some news dropped that kind of pulled the rug out from under the Chiefs.
According to Tracy Wolfson of CBS Sports, the Chiefs will be without Willie Gay Jr., their most athletic linebacker and one of their better linebackers in coverage. He played as the spy a few times against Josh Allen last week.
If he were to play, that likely would have been his role for this game. While this news isn't great, it's not news that you necessarily have to be upset about, and you feel like the Chiefs are at an immediate disadvantage.
This means Drue Tranquill will get to play a bit more, which is great news in that sense. He has been great in coverage and in the run.
This kind of throws a wrench in the report we received the night before, where it was expected that Gay Jr. would play. Now, it's all on Tranquill, Chenal, and Bolton.
Chiefs reinforce depth at key defensive positions ahead of AFC title game
The Kansas City Chiefs have added two defenders from the practice squad to the 53-man roster for the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens.
