The Kansas City Chiefs enter the 2023 NFL Draft with a few questions to answer and a few holes to fill. They seem to have struck gold in the first round with their selection of Felix Anudike-Uzomah, so now, it's about making the next picks count just as much.
So, who are the newest Chiefs from the 2023 NFL Draft? Let's take a look and find out.
Kansas City Chiefs’ 2023 Draft Picks
Round 1, No. 31 overall: Felix Anudike-Uzomah, Kansas State

The way the draft was going started to be in favor of the Kansas City Chiefs taking a receiver in round one. Then, out of nowhere around pick 19 there were four straight receivers taken, all of which the Chiefs were interested in.
So, they settled for a pass rusher, which was also a huge need considering they no longer have Frank Clark. They got their best available player on the board, and a guy who is actually from Kansas City.
The Chiefs now have the potential to have an elite edge rusher duo with Anudike-Uzomah and George Karlaftis. Ad, they can even have an elite front four too.
Round 2, No. 55 overall: WR Rashee Rice, SMU

The Kansas City Chiefs missed out on their opportunity to grab a receiver in the first round, so they settled with an edge rusher. With their second pick, they didn’t disappoint, as they took Rashee Rice from SMU.
Rice is a guy that has WR1 potential, but still needs some developing. He can do it all, but he did it all in lower level division one football. Well, he didn't play Power five, I should say.
His catch radius is amazing and his ability to come down with the ball is even better. Rice can use his speed to get by the secondary or he can use his strength to win one-on-ones.
Round 3, No. 92 overall: RT Wanya Morris, Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Sooners had two of the best tackles in college football last year. The Chiefs showed interest in Anton Harrison in pre-draft visits, but Jacksonville decided to take him at 28. So, the Chiefs got his running mat at 92.
With Andrew Wylie leaving for Washington, the Chiefs needed a right tackle. Now, they will have Morris and Lucan Niang battling for the position in training camp.
Round 4, No. 119 overall: DB Chamarri Connor, Virginia Tech

The Kansas City Chiefs not only need depth at the position, but they also need a backup plan for the possibility of L’Jarius Sneed not returning for the 2024 season due to possible contract issues between the two sides.
Luckily, Connor is almost a replica of Sneed in terms of play style, measurables, and position. Connor can be very good, and if Sneed ends up staying, Connor could even play safety like he did in college.
There are so many reasons why Connor was such a great pick, those are just a few of them.
Round 5, No. 166 overall: DE BJ Thompson, SFA

The former Baylor Bear transferred to Stephen F. Austin and put on a show as a Lumberjack. The Chiefs need defensive end depth, or even guys that could possibly start eventually, and they got that in the fifth round.
Thompson has the size to be really good and his strength is great, but his production against smaller schools is what people were scared of. If there is anything the Chiefs know, it's not to look away because of how small the school was.
Just look at Joshua Williams. Hopefully Thompson can turn into a key player like Williams
Round 6, No. 194 overall: DT Keondre Coburn, Texas

The Chiefs needed depth from the interior defensive line after losing Khalen Saunders to the New Orleans Saints. And, they got a guy in Coburn who plays the same style, and athletic gap stuffer.
Coburn was able to put up pretty impressive stats at Texas. The Chiefs were interested in a defensive tackle from the get-go when a report came out that they were interested in Mazi Smith, but missed out.
This guy isn't as good as Smith, but could be a key defensive piece as a backup.
Round 7, No. 250 overall: CB Nic Jones, Ball State

This pick just goes back to last year where the Chiefs were able to tale defensive backs very late in the draft and make them key players in a Super Bowl run. Those guys made plays, key plays.
They are hoping Jones could be similar, and why wouldn't they. They have taken a cornerback on day three several times now and turned them into good players, and guys that can start.
