The Kansas City Chiefs' injury list grew at an exponential rate during Tuesday's training camp practice.

As practice began on Tuesday, eight players were sidelined with injuries to start the day. That group included S Mike Edwards (ankle), TE Jody Fortson (shoulder), CB Nic Jones (fractured fingers), CB L’Jarius Sneed (knee), WR Kadarius Toney (knee), DT Turk Wharton (knee).

During the course of practice, the team suffered attrition at the wide receiver position, with each of Nikko Remigio, Justyn Ross, and Ihmir Smith-Marsette heading to the medical tent and leaving the practice field in the cart.

Remigio suffered his injury during one-on-one drills and needed to be helped over to the tent by members of the training staff. Both Ross and Smith-Marsette went to the tent under their own power.

Speaking to reporters after practice, Chiefs HC Andy Reid confirmed injuries for several of the players missing from practice.

"As far as injuries go, Mike Edwards' ankle swole up," Reid said. "It looks good off X-Ray and all that. It just got stepped on.

"Nic Jones, I mentioned he had a hand fracture. He's at a specialist right now, so we'll see how he does. (Anthony) Witherstone we talked about with the toe. That's a toe sprain.

"Then today, we had a couple of receivers go down. Nik Remigio went down with a shoulder dislocation. (Ihmir) Smith-Marsette went down with a groin. And (Justyn) Ross went down with a knee/hamstring. He's being checked out now."

Asked to elaborate on Ross' injury, Reid didn't have a whole lot of clarity on the situation other than the fact that it's a lower-body injury.

"It's a knee/hamstring/shin, something down there," Reid said. "We have to see."

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport later reported that the injury doesn't appear to be serious and that Ross should be OK.

Getting out of this time of the year as healthy as possible is always the goal. We'll keep you posted on injuries to Jones, Remigio, Smith-Marsette, and Ross as we know more.
