The Kansas City Chiefs now know the fate of one of their top free agent signings for the 2023 NFL season.

As first reported by NFL media's Ian Rapoport, the NFL announced on Thursday that Chiefs DL Charles Omenihu has been suspended for the first six games to start the 2023 NFL season. This suspension stems from a violation of the NFL personal conduct policy, which stem from a domestic violence incident in January of 2023. Omenihu was arrested after allegedly pushing his girlfriend down following an argument.

This is something that Kansas City knew was coming after they signed Omenihu in free agency back in March.

Omenihu is still eligible to participate in all preseason and training camp practices. He'll be eligible to participate in team meetings and do weight training at the team facility once the season begins.

The veteran defensive lineman will be eligible to return from suspension on October 13, following the team's Week 6 game against the Denver Broncos. He'll also miss matchups against the Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings.

The suspension should provide some opportunity for some of the team's young defensive linemen to get on the field. Omenihu has been absent from training camp practice for the past two days with calf spasms, leading to players like Joshua Kaindoh, Malik Herring and Felix Anudike-Uzomah to see an increased number of repetitions with the first-team defense.

The Kansas City Chiefs completed their tenth open training camp practice at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri on Thursday.  The players are starting to get back into the swing of real football again, which also means that several of those players are beginning to separate themselves from the rest of the pack.
