The Kansas City Chiefs notched their third win of the season against the New York Jets in Week 4. Patrick Mahomes made the game interesting with some second-quarter struggles, but they were able to grind out the tough win.
We're beginning to see some snap trends develop now that we're about a quarter of the way into the season. Here’s a look at how the snaps came down in Week 4 followed by some takeaways:

Justyn Ross hits season low and other WR concerns:
After stoking the offseason hype, Ross has just 48 total snaps on offense all season, two targets, and a single reception. This week, he hit a season-low in offensive snaps with four. I asked a team source what it's going to take to get Ross more opportunities and was met with a one-word answer: "Patience."
Ross is seeing an uptick in snaps on special teams, which will keep him in the active lineup for Kansas City. However, it appears it'll take more to get him involved on offense.
As for other receivers, Justin Watson, Skyy Moore, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling each played over 54% of the wide receiver snaps this week. They combined for 2 catches for 11 yards on the night. That's obviously not good enough given the amount of playing time, but I get the sense that the team felt this wasn't a great matchup for their receiving corps and expects to have better opportunities in the passing game in Week 5.
Chris Jones' snap totals normalizing:
For the first time this season, Chris Jones played 75% of the defensive snaps for the team. He averaged over 80% of the defensive snaps a season ago. It's finally beginning to look like he's in "football shape" and ready to play the full helping of snaps he'd normally get. He's up to 3.5 sacks on the season and 35% of the way to earning his 10-sack contract incentive.
Steady rise for Mike Edwards:
Free agent S Mike Edwards has seen a steady rise in defensive snaps each week this season. It culminated in his playing 44% of the defensive snaps against the Jets on Sunday night, and the ballhawk managed to make another play on the ball with a near-interception. That has been his modus operandi throughout his career with seven interceptions, including three for touchdowns, in his four seasons in Tampa Bay. I'm told the Chiefs value his ability to create turnovers and are motivated to get him more snaps on defense.
Special teams observations:
Leo Chenal (21 snaps) led the entire team in special teams snaps. Three players (Jack Cochrane, Chamarri Conner, Joshua Williams) each had 20 snaps apiece. Rookie CB Nic Jones only played special teams snaps in his debut. Six other non-specialists only played special teams snaps.
