The NFL can't seem to help itself when using Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes' 40-yard dash at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine to illustrate a point.

Mahomes requested ahead of the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine that producers for the league cut it out, and stop overlaying his 40-yard dash during the combine broadcasts. He just managed to call some attention to it and they certainly took advantage.

The first instance during on-field drills and testing for the defensive line on Thursday came when the league Simulcast Mahomes' 4.8s 40-yard dash attempt against FSU DT Braden Fiske and Texas DT T'Vondre Sweat. The latter, Sweat, ran a 5.27s 40-yard dash at 366 pounds, while Fiske was flying through the drill with a 4.78s 40-yard dash at 292 pounds.

At least Mahomes wasn't left in the dust this time around. Still, he wasn't a happy camper.

He posted a respectable No. 2 finish in that one, but he wasn't so lucky when it came to the Simulcam of a player from his alma mater. Texas Tech DE Myles Cole is an elite athlete and at 6-foot-6 and over 270 pounds, he ran a 4.69s 40-yard dash. They took the opportunity to rib Mahomes some more.

"Come on," NFL Network's Rich Eisen said. "We've got to stand up for Patrick Mahomes. . . or keep doing it."

It's safe to say that this torture will continue for Mahomes during the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, and for many years to come.
