The Kansas City Chiefs are set to lose one of their pending free agents.

According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Houston Texans are set to sign Chiefs P Tommy Townsend in free agency. It'll be a two-year deal for Townsend worth a total of $6 million. You might be saying, "Oh, that's not that much." On the contrary, that's the fourth-largest average per year salary for a punter. The total value isn't quite as high, but it's understandable why Kansas City wouldn't make such a commitment.

The writing was on the wall that Kansas City was moving on from Townsend when they signed former Buffalo Bills P Matt Araiza last month

Townsend's tremendous tenure with the Chiefs comes to an end and he'll leave a two-time Super Bowl champion in Super Bowl LVII against the Eagles and Super Bowl LVIII against the 49ers. He appeared in 79 total games for Kansas City over the past four seasons after going undrafted out of the University of Florida in 2020. He earned First-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections in 2022.

He'll leave the Chiefs organization ranking eighth in total punt yards, but first in career net yards per punt average with 42.8.
