Tennessee Vols fans are often viewed by the national media as being too passionate at times.

That passion that's described as over the top by the national media, however, is an asset to the Volunteers on the recruiting trail.

2023 three-star safety Jack Luttrell, a Tennessee commit from Moultrie, GA, recently spoke to Rivals.com about his recruitment.

Luttrell pointed out the Vols' strong family culture as one of the main reasons he chose to commit to the Volunteers last summer.

"It was definitely the culture, the family culture, the environment, just how much they welcomed me but also my dad and my mom,” said Luttrell this week.

“I come from a family of five kids so we were able to bring all my brothers and sisters up there," added Luttrell. "They all loved it, the coaches loved them, they let us run around and play."

Luttrell then made sure to point out that Vols fans play a big part in his love for Tennessee, too.

"It was all about the family environment up there and then also the Tennessee fans, there is nothing like a Tennessee fan," explained Luttrell. “You tweet something or post something on Instagram and within minutes they’re saying ‘Go Big Orange, Vol For Life,’ it’s crazy.”

Luttrell isn't exaggerating. I recently looked at the comments on an Instagram post from five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava, one of the most sought-after recruits in the nation, and there was significantly more engagement from Vol fans than any other fanbase.

It's obviously going to take more than positive comments from Tennessee fans to land elite recruits. But it's incredibly obvious that Vols fans are having a positive impact on recruiting.

The national media may view Tennessee fans as toxic, but that's not how the fanbase is viewed by recruits.

And ultimately, the opinions of recruits matter a whole lot more than the opinions of the national media.
