The Tennessee Titans kick off their 2021-2022 season by hosting the Arizona Cardinals. Since they officially became the Titans, how have they fared in home openers?
1999
In their inaugural game, the Titans snuck by the Cincinnati Bengals by a score of 36-35. The legendary Steve McNair threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns. He had another TD on the ground as well.
2001
To open the 2001 season, Tennessee fell to the Miami Dolphins, 31-23. The Titans threw three interceptions between McNair and backup QB Neil O'Donnell.
2002
Derrick Mason and McNair led the Titans to an opening week victory in 2002, beating the Philadelphia Eagles 27-24. The defense picked off Donovan McNabb twice and sacked him six times.
2003
Tennessee welcomed the Oakland Raiders to the new season with a loss, 25-20. Derrick Mason dominated the Raiders' secondary for ten catches, 99 yards, and a TD.
2006
A few years later, the Jets gave that same unwelcome season greeting to Tennessee. Chad Pennington and Laveranues Cole combined forces to beat them, 23-16. Kerry Collins threw two picks, and Vince Young threw one.
2008
The 2008 opener was a defensive grind between Tennessee and Jacksonville. The Titans outlasted the Jaguars, 17-10, behind three forced turnovers and a strong rushing attack from Chris Johnson and LenDale White.
2010
The Titans came out firing on all cylinders to start the 2010 season, defeating the Raiders by a score of 38-13. CJ2K went for 142 yards and two TDs to lead their offense to a dub.
2012
2012's first game was less fun for Tennessee. They fell to Tom Brady and the Patriots, 34-13. The Titans had 16 rushing attempts for 20 yards.
2016
The Vikings won a weird one in Tennessee to begin the 2016 season. The Minnesota defense accounted for two touchdowns as they outscored the Titans 25-6 in the second half to win 25-16.
2017
Oakland got their revenge from 2010. Derek Carr led the Raiders to a 26-16 victory over Marcus Mariota and the Titans. Good ole Marshawn Lynch had a good game for Oakland, too.
That was actually Tennessee's last season opener at home. They're 5-5 in home openers since the swap from the Oilers. Fans surely hope that this year brings a better outcome than the last three.
