It sounds like the Tennessee Titans are playing hardball with star wide receiver AJ Brown.
Brown is looking for a new contract as he enters the final year of his rookie deal. The former Ole Miss standout didn't report to Tennessee's voluntary offseason workouts this week as he works to land a new deal with the Titans.
Tennessee has maintained that they intend to extend Brown. But it sounds like the negotiations aren't going very smoothly at the moment.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel's step-mom, Precious Martin, was on Instagram live recently and a conversation between Samuel and Brown could be heard in the background.
Brown told Samuel that the Titans told him that they know he can get a contract worth more than $20 million a year, but they're not going to be the team that gives it to him.
"They (Tennessee) offered him (Brown) $20 million, but they know he can get more but they're not giving him more," said Samuel in the video (while Brown is on the phone).
I don't think this information is any reason for Titans fans to panic. This is just how negotiations in professional sports go. We don't typically get to see behind the curtain like this.
The Titans, under general manager Jon Robinson, have a track record of taking care of their players. But at the same time, they're not just going to give money away.
They'll continue to negotiate until a deal is reached. The only way this goes south is if Brown decides he wants out of Nashville and would prefer to play elsewhere.
That can't be ruled out, but for now, it's not something I see happening.
