The Tennessee Vols were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament on Thursday night via their 62-55 loss to the Florida Atlantic Owls.
Tennessee led for much of the game but they relinquished the lead in the second half and they could never make a run to close the gap.
The Vols have yet to advance past the Sweet 16 under Rick Barnes.
Most of the talk leading up to Tennessee's matchup against FAU centered on the Vols' physical playing style.
Numerous members of the national media threw shade at Tennessee for the way they played against Duke in the second round of the tournament.
Fox Sports' Doug Gottlieb was one of the loudest critics of the Vols this week, taking several shots at Tennessee.
On Thursday night, Gottlieb tweeted a video of Vols forward Uros Plavsic committing a flagrant foul against an FAU player. It was definitely the right call, but Gottlieb seemed to take delight in calling out Plavsic for the foul. Gottlieb also called out Tennessee fans for "trolling" him all week.
Gottlieb also called Plavsic a "cheap shot artist".
It was definitely an unnecessary play from Plavsic, but Gottlieb acts like that's the first time it's ever happened on a basketball court.
Gottlieb and the rest of the national media can rest easy tonight knowing the Vols are heading back to Knoxville. Their long national nightmare — which is apparently players playing the game with toughness and passion — is finally over.
