Quarterback purgatory is a terrifying place in the NFL.

For the Indianapolis Colts, they have sat in it over the last several years. They haven't had a legitimate franchise QB since Andrew Luck retired.

This year is no different for them, and it may make Titans fans a bit more thankful for their QB situation in recent years as well as right now.

The Colts just announced that veteran Nick Foles will start for the rest of the season. He will be their third starting QB this season. Foles joins Matt Ryan and Sam Ehlinger in that category.

The move comes at an odd time once against for Indianapolis, and their decision to move Ryan from the starter to third string is even more peculiar.

That's exactly what they're doing, though.

Ryan hasn't played too well, but he also hasn't been the sole reason that they have struggled so often this season. There is a more comical piece to this move by the Colts, though.

It may even make Titans fans laugh a bit.

Foles hadn't taken first-team reps with Indy at all this season prior to this week.

They're legitimately just throwing him to the wolves with nothing on the line for them in these final few weeks. The fact that their choice to replace Ryan with Foles shows their lack of a young future QB in the building, too.

They have no idea who will be their quarterback next season – let alone in 3-4 years.

For the Titans, they at least have a youthful, physically gifted QB on their roster in Malik Willis. His upside brings them some hope for the future.

Ryan Tannehill may or may not be their starter next year, but they still probably feel more secure about their QB situation going forward than the Colts.
