Tennessee Titans training camp is officially underway in 2023 and the DeAndre Hopkins era of football in Nashville has begun.
The five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver and recent free agent acquisition was on the practice field on Wednesday for Tennessee's first practice of camp in front of the media. Hopkins left practice a bit early to handle the "prior obligation" Mike Vrabel referred to earlier this week, but Hopkins is expected back in building in "a day or so."
While on the field, it was all positives. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill targeted Hopkins on three of his first four passes on the day, connecting on two of three attempts. Hopkins had a few big gains during the 11-on-11 period, as well.
Tannehill spoke to Titans media after practice and spoke very highly of his new wide receiver. "I've been a fan of his game for a long time now and admired his game for a long time," said Tannehill. "To be able to come out and put some work in on the first day, it's exciting, it was a good start for us. We have a long way to go, but we're starting to build that relationship from day one."
Hopkins has also had a substantial early impact on second-year wide receiver Treylon Burks, who has been absorbing as much as possible over the last few days.
"Meeting with him the couple days that he has been here, it's been amazing learning the way that he takes care of his business. Then coming out here during practice, seeing that is going to do nothing but help me progress," said Burks after practice on Wednesday.
The Titans have a really dangerous duo at wide receiver this fall in Hopkins and Burks. It was refreshing to watch Tannehill drop back during a practice with a handful of options he can throw to.
It's going to be a lot of fun to watch the chemistry develop on the offensive side of the football and see where the Titans are come September. So far, so good.
Titans WR DeAndre Hopkins has nothing but good things to say about Ryan Tannehill
Hopkins has a lot of faith in his quarterback.
