ESPN completely disrespects Tennessee Vols' QB room

The Tennessee Vols will have a new starting quarterback in 2023 with Hendon Hooker off to the NFL, but UT fans aren't too concerned about having a new offensive leader.

That's because Joe Milton, a former starter who saw a significant amount of action in 2022, will be taking over as the Vols' starting quarterback in 2023.

And he'll be backed up by five-star phenom Nico Iamaleava, a true freshman at Tennessee.

That's a pretty good quarterback situation to have.

ESPN, however, somehow still believes that Georgia and Alabama have better quarterback situations than Tennessee.

The national sports media outlet recently revealed their future quarterback power rankings and they have Georgia at No. 4 and Alabama at No. 5.

Tennessee, meanwhile, is at No. 8.

From ESPN: Joe Milton III has started seasons for both Tennessee and Michigan in a fascinating college career, and will enter his final year hoping for an extended run at QB1. Milton replaced the injured Hooker late last season and won Orange Bowl MVP honors after passing for 251 yards and three touchdowns against Clemson. The Vols could lean on Milton this fall, but incoming freshman Nico Iamaleava arrives with tremendous intrigue. The California native was ESPN's No. 4 pocket passer and No. 23 overall player in the 2023 class. Iamaleava is set up to lead the offense in 2024 and 2025. Tayven Jackson's transfer to Indiana creates a need for more depth, but Tennessee is positioned well for recruits and transfers because of the appeal of its offense.

I'm not sure how ESPN thinks that Alabama and Georgia both have better quarterback situations than Tennessee.

The Crimson Tide have Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson battling this spring/summer for the Bama starting job while the Bulldogs have Carson Beck and Brock Vandagriff competing for the starting job at Georgia.

Of those four quarterbacks, Beck has the most experience with 486 career passing yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Milton, on the other hand, has 2,540 career passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and six interceptions. During his time at Tennessee, Milton has passed for 1,346 yards, 12 touchdowns, and zero interceptions. That includes starts against Vanderbilt and Clemson to close the 2022 season (Milton was the Orange Bowl MVP against Clemson's tough defense).

When you combine Milton's experience and production with the hype of Iamaleava (he's a higher-rated recruit than any of the quarterbacks on Alabama's or Georgia's roster), it's a no-brainer that Tennessee's quarterback room should be ranked higher than Bama's and Georgia's.

Former Vols quarterback Hendon Hooker said recently that Tennessee gets a lot of disrespect. This is just further proof that he's correct.
