The biggest sports news of the week in Nashville concerns Tennessee Titans wide receiver AJ Brown and his contract situation.

Brown is entering the final season of his rookie contract and he's hoping to capitalize on the exploding wide receiver market and secure a lucrative long-term deal from the Titans.

As a result, Brown is skipping Tennessee's voluntary on-field workouts this week. That's a common tactic that's been used by many NFL players, including Titans offensive lineman Taylor Lewan.

On Tuesday, ESPN's Dianna Russini provided an update on Brown's contract situation with the Titans during an appearance on 104.5 The Zone's The Buck Reising Show.

"From what I can gather, from conversations I've had with sources, both sides are working towards a deal," said Russini. "They're trying to extend him. They're trying to keep him in Tennessee for a really long time. I don't think this is a situation where the front office of the Tennessee Titans are looking at this going 'we're going to let him walk' or 'we'll trade him'. Everything I can gather has been they want to keep him."

"[Titans general manager] Jon Robinson was very open about how they want to make sure that he's not traded," added Russini. "Mike Vrabel went on Rich Eisen last week and said 'we love him' and [that] as long as he's the head coach they're not trading him."

"When I heard that soundbite [from Vrabel] that's actually what really prompted me to think 'man, AJ's not going anywhere' because I've never heard Coach [Vrabel] talk like that about any player."

According to Russini, the situation with Brown's contract is more of a "when" than an "if".

Reising noted that Tennessee doesn't typically get extensions done until just before training camp so it could be a bit before Brown's extension with the Titans gets finished. Russini, however, did note that she thinks Brown's extension will get done before other top wide receivers sign an extension (such as Deebo Samuel or DK Metcalf) since Tennessee and Brown are actively working on the deal.

It doesn't appear that there's anything for Titans fans to worry about when it comes to AJ Brown's long-term future in Nashville, though I'm sure this will be a story until a deal is actually done.
