Former Tennessee Titans punter and fan favorite Brett Kern is hoping that his roller coaster of a 2022 season will end with a Super Bowl Championship.

Kern is currently the punter for the Philadelphia Eagles, the number one seed in the NFC playoff picture. He signed with the Eagles in the middle of December after being beat out by Titans rookie Ryan Stonehouse for Tennessee’s punting duties in training camp.

An injury to Eagles punter Arryn Siposs opened the door for Kern to get back on an NFL roster and compete for a championship, and the roller coaster ride for Kern has continued into the Eagles’ playoff run.

During Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers, one of Kern’s punts ended in controversy.

Late in the first quarter, with Philadelphia leading 7-0, Kern had a punt travel just 34 yards, landing out of bounds just across midfield. Immediately, Kern and players on the Eagles sideline began pointing to the wire that holds the NFL skycam. The Eagles very clearly believed the ball had hit the skycam, knocking it down out of bounds.

While the officials looked at the replay, it was determined that the call would stand and the punt would count. On top of that, a 10 yard penalty was assessed against the Eagles, resulting in just 24 yards of net punting. Officials were ultimately unable to confirm whether or not the ball had hit the wire, which should have resulted in a redo of down for Philadelphia and a second chance for Kern.

Kern very clearly yelled “Are you serious?” at the officials after the ruling.

One of the most revered Titans of recent memory, watching Kern win a Super Bowl title would be incredible, but it clearly won’t come easy for him or the Eagles.
