There's no one in the NFL quite like New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick when it comes to gamesmanship.
Belichick loves finding an advantage. And he'll use every little detail he can to make a difference. It doesn't matter how small the detail is, Belichick will utilize it.
So it shouldn't come as a surprise that Belichick is engaging in some gamesmanship during the pre-draft process with Mike Vrabel and the Tennessee Titans.
Belichick reportedly brought in Tyler Vrabel, Mike Vrabel's son, for a pre-draft visit this week.
This is such a Belichick thing to do. The Patriots might have a legitimate interest in Tyler Vrabel. And they might draft him or sign him as an undrafted free agent.
But even if they don't, Belichick won't view this visit as a waste.
There are three great reasons why the Patriots brought in Tyler Vrabel:
- They might actually draft him (he's a good player and Belichick obviously knows his family well).
- To get any possible intel on Mike Vrabel and the Titans. It doesn't even have to be something major. Just anything possible that Belichick could see as an advantage somehow.
- To get in Mike Vrabel's head.
The third reason might seem petty, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was Belichick's main goal.
Belichick doesn't do anything without a litany of reasons behind it. You can best bet that Tyler Vrabel's connection to Mike Vrabel and the Titans was a big reason why this visit happened.
