The Tennessee Vols are in the market for a new women's basketball coach after the program moved on from Kellie Harper this week.

Harper was relieved of her duties on Monday as the head coach of the Lady Vols after going 108-52 in five seasons leading the program.

“After a thorough review of our women’s basketball program, I have informed Kellie we are making a change in leadership,” said Vols athletic director Danny White in statement announcing the move. “Decisions like these are never easy to make, especially with someone who has done so much for the Lady Vols as a three-time national champion student-athlete. Her love and passion for Tennessee and the Lady Vols is second to none. She has invested so much heart and soul into our program and truly has given her all for Tennessee. I thank Kellie for her stewardship of our women’s basketball program and wish her and Jon well in the next chapter of their lives.”

White also noted that he's beginning an "aggressive" search for a new coach.

“After seeking input from our student-athletes, I will begin an aggressive search process to find the next leader for our iconic women’s basketball program,” said White. “To protect the integrity of this process, you will not hear from me until we are ready to announce our new head coach.”

ESPN's Chris Low suggested on Monday that White will go outside of the Lady Vols family for this hire. Low also noted that he thinks White will "swing big".

Here's a list of potential options that could be considered by White.

Lindsay Gottlieb — USC head coach

Lindsay Gottlieb is coming off a season in which she guided USC to a finish in the top five of the regular season AP Top 25 poll and an appearance in the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. Gottlieb, who is from New York, played at Brown in the mid to late 90s, which means she was playing when the Lady Vols were dominating the sport on a regular basis.

Wes Moore — NC State head coach

Wes Moore seems unlikely due to his age — he turns 67 later this month — but he went to college at Tennessee and he has NC State in the Final Four this season just two years after guiding the program to an Elite Eight appearance. Moore has also coached at Maryville and Chattanooga. He has extensive connections in East Tennessee. But again, it's tough to see White hiring a coach that's nearing 70 years old.

Jennie Baranczyk — Oklahoma head coach

Jennie Baranczyk took over an Oklahoma program that had bottomed out under Sherri Coale and she quickly turned things around. The Sooners have reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament in three straight years after missing the tournament for three straight seasons before Baranczyk's arrival.

Becky Hammon — Las Vegas Aces head coach

Here's your home run hire — if White can pull it off. Hammon has won two WNBA championships and she was the 2022 WNBA coach of the year. After a standout career at Colorado State, Hammon spent 13 years as a player before getting into coaching in 2014. Hammon was an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA before landing the Aces' head coaching job in 2022, where she found instant success. Hammon would be a massive hire, but would she leave the WNBA? She'd likely be a more recognizable figure in sports, on a national level, as the head coach of the Lady Vols, so we can't rule out that she could have some interest.
