Pro Football Focus released a post-first wave of free agency mock draft on Thursday and they have the Tennesee Titans taking a quarterback with the No. 26 overall pick.

PFF mocks Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral to the Titans.

From PFF:

Ryan Tannehill just got expensive. The contract he signed two years ago is finally coming back to roost, with cap hits of $38.6 million and $38.8 million the next two years. It’s going to be difficult for the Titans to keep their roster together with those cap hits making Tannehill a candidate to be moved at some point. If that’s the case, it would be some well-planned forethought to have Corral waiting in the wings.

I understand where PFF is coming from with this pick. Ryan Tannehill will turn 34 this summer and we've likely seen his peak as an NFL quarterback.

Tannehill will be the guy in 2022 for the Titans, but there's a path to his release in 2023 (the Titans could save $27 million in cap space by releasing Tannehill after June 1 in 2023).

If the Titans move on from Tannehill after 2022, they'll obviously need a new starting quarterback. Drafting a quarterback in 2022 with the plan of making that quarterback the starter in 2023 makes sense.

I'm just not sure Corral is that guy. I like Corral. And I think he has the potential to be a solid NFL quarterback. But he's far from a sure thing. I don't think using a first-round pick on a quarterback who would probably be a second-round pick in any other draft is a wise idea (this is a weak quarterback draft class).

The Titans have other needs they can address at No. 26 (they need a No. 2 wide receiver after releasing Julio Jones). Drafting Corral in that slot could be an absolute waste of a pick.

I'd be extremely surprised if the Titans take a quarterback in the first round unless a player like Liberty's Malik Willis somehow falls to the end of the first round (which likely isn't happening).
