Whenever the Titans and Bills get together it’s always an emotional battle filled with plenty of physicality.
There will be numerous storylines heading into Monday Night Football’s clash between the two AFC foes.
Titans fans will be particularly intrigued to see how the team’s pass rush stacks up against a familiar face in Rodger Saffold.
Saffold spent three seasons in Tennessee before signing with the Bills this offseason. He started in 47 games at left guard and was an instrumental piece in the team’s run-first identity.
Saffold was beloved in Tennessee and was part of the ‘Run Left’ mantra the Titans were so committed to during his tenure. He made his first Pro Bowl in 2021, but was subsequently cut in the offseason.
As far as motivation goes, Saffold says that won’t be a problem.
“Because I have so much respect for their guys, because I know the identity of the team, because I know how these guys play – that’s all the motivation I need,” said Saffold on One Bills Live.
He will certainly have his hands full with the Titans’ pass rush, which recorded five sacks in the season opener against the New York Giants.
Jeffery Simmons, who was responsible for two sacks and a forced fumble in Week 1, said there is an advantage that stems from their time together in Tennessee.
“I think the advantage is we kind of both know each other. I know his play style, I’m sure he knows my play style. I watched him against the Rams. He’s doing some things a little different, but it’s basically the same Rodger that I’ve [seen] since I’ve been here with Tennessee. I’m excited for the matchup.”
Monday will mark the fifth meeting between these two in as many years. Nothing comes easy in this rivalry as six of the last seven games have all been decided by one score.
The Titans will need to put all emotions aside in order to sneak out of Buffalo with a win and avoid the first 0-2 start since 2012.
