Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill will break one of Steve McNair’s most defining records by taking one snap in Sunday’s Week 7 showdown against the Indianapolis Colts.

McNair, the Ironman

Titans fans remember Steve McNair to be the toughest player this franchise has ever seen. McNair wouldn’t just play through injuries that would sideline most quarterbacks for months. He churned out miraculous game-winning performances in the process.

His toughness was a contributing factor to claiming the record for most consecutive starts by a quarterback in the Titans' era of the franchise (48).

Rewriting the Record Books

Tannehill, who is currently tied with McNair, will start his 49th straight game as a Titan this weekend.

Tannehill has his fair share of knocks, but durability has not been one of those since he took over as the team’s starter in Week 7 of the 2019 season.

Ironically, it was his injury history that led the Miami Dolphins to trade Tannehill to the Titans in exchange for a couple of late-round draft picks in March of 2019. Tannehill tore his ACL twice in an eight-month span with Miami, forcing him to miss the entire 2017 season.

Tannehill has a 33-15 record as the Titans’ starter with 82 touchdowns compared to just 30 interceptions. However, poor performances in the postseason have contributed to many Titans fans souring on the team’s signal caller.

No matter your opinion on Tannehill, it’s objectively impressive to hear any Titans quarterback mentioned in the same breath as No. 9, not to mention snapping one of his most impressive records.
