Every single college football season guarantees one thing. Plenty of NFL Draft prospects will come from the SEC. Could the Titans look to select a local prospect in the first round in this year's draft? There are plenty of options, but here are a few in particular.
Nakobe Dean, Linebacker, Georgia
Dean is one of the most exciting prospects in this year's draft class. He was a fireball flying around on the Bulldogs' defense. At 6'0, 225 pounds, he possesses good size for the position. His athleticism is what pops off the screen the most, though. There's a reason he won the 2021 Dick Butkus Award for college football's best linebacker.
The former Georgia LB makes booming hits in the run game, but that doesn't come at the expense of pass coverage production from his position. He has great instincts for where the ball is going, and he consistently broke on the ball to break up passes in the middle of the field or on dump-off to the running back. His best attribute may be his mind. He's a cerebral defender and a leader. The Titans could use him beside David Long Jr. in the front seven of their defense.
Kaiir Elam, Cornerback, Florida
Don't click away quite yet simply because this is a former Florida Gator. Elam provides a lot of positives as a prospect, and he could be on the board when the Titans pick in the first round. Elam was a highly-touted high school prospect entering Florida. He showed that during his time with the Gators.
Elam is a versatile outside cornerback. In man coverage, his best reps come in press when he is able to use his length early and often in the route. The former Florida CB also has impressive eyes and ball skills. His fluidity also shows up on film, as he's able to shift his hips quickly when necessary and break on the ball. Adding an aggressive cornerback like Elam to a CB room with Kristian Fulton and Elijah Molden would make plenty of sense for the Titans. That's a feisty and exciting young bunch.
Treylon Burks, Wide Receiver, Arkansas
If you would've told me Burks was an option for Tennessee a couple of months ago, I would have called you a bit crazy. The former Razorbacks WR did not have his best performance at the combine, but his talent is undeniable. Burks is a silky smooth mover with the football in his hands, and his impressive plays mimic some that A.J. Brown makes for the Titans. He's a consistent downfield threat as well at his size, and he high-points the ball very well.
Burks was the top-rated player in Arkansas during his high school recruitment. Between 2020 and 2021, he was easily the most impressive and exciting part of the Arkansas offense. Defenses did not want to see Burks with space after he gets the football. Burks is the definition of versatile.
Expect the SEC to have plenty of first-rounders this year once again. One of these guys could certainly be the pick for Tennessee.
