On Monday, ESPN draft insider Todd McShay reported that he's hearing the Tennessee Titans could select a quarterback in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

The theory from McShay is that Tennessee could use the No. 26 overall pick on a quarterback, sit that quarterback for a year, and then move on from Ryan Tannehill after the 2022 season (when his dead cap hit is only $18.8 million).

Draft scout Marshal Miller lent some credence to the Titans/quarterback rumors on Wednesday when he noted that he's heard a lot of chatter that Tennessee is interested in drafting Cincinnati Bearcats quarterback Desmond Ridder.

"My favorite [rumor] is this Desmond Ridder rumor," said Miller. "I don't even know if it's a rumor anymore, I think it's pretty factual. It doesn't mean the Titans will take Desmond Ridder, but they're at least exploring the option of taking a quarterback in the first round because they don't have a second-round pick."

I think this is probably a situation where the Titans are doing their due diligence on several different positions. I think we're going to see Tennessee general manager Jon Robinson be prepared for several different scenarios.

What the Titans do in the first round of the draft is going to be dependent on what happens with the top 20 picks. A player could start falling that the Titans really like and they could trade up. Or maybe several players the Titans like get drafted in the top 25 and then Tennessee decides to trade down.

If Ridder is available at No. 26 and other top players on the Titans' board are gone, then I could see him being the pick. But I don't think this is a situation where we're going to see Tennessee trade up for Ridder.

It's not wise to predict what the Titans will do because the Titans aren't even sure right now what they're going to do.

But it certainly sounds like taking a quarterback is an option that's absolutely in play for the Titans on Thursday night.
