The top of the AFC South will most likely be a two-horse race. The Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts will fight for the division crown. The Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars expect to be improved this season, but it is very unlikely they take a big enough step to contend for a playoff spot. The prior two teams are considered playoff contenders. A weaker AFC South certainly helps that as well. Regardless, Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright believes that the Colts will take the division.

The Breakdown

As you can see, Wright has both the Colts and Titans in the playoffs, though. That will be very difficult to attain in the current AFC. I only see one AFC South team making the postseason because the AFC West and AFC North will both get at least two teams in the playoff field. Not to mention, Wright has 3/4 of the AFC East going 7-10 or worse. That's not particularly likely because the Dolphins should win more than five games, and you can never count out the Patriots to make the playoffs.

It is apparent that Wright sees the Colts and Titans teeing off on the bottom two teams in their division. He probably expects them to perform well again their NFC opponents as well.

Both teams seemingly made upgrades at positions of need during the off-season. Both Indy and Tennessee each have a top five running back in the NFL. The Colts moved on from QB Carson Wentz and acquired Matt Ryan from the Falcons. They also made moves for EDGE rusher Yannick Ngakoue and CB Stephon Gilmore on defense.

The Titans traded WR A.J. Brown and moved on from WR Julio Jones. They replaced them with rookie Treylon Burks and veteran Robert Woods. Tennessee added to their secondary depth with rookie Roger McCreary as well. Not to mention, they locked in EDGE rusher Harold Landry III to a long-term deal. TE Austin Hooper was their other notable addition on offense for 2022.

As of right now, it's fair to predict either one of Indianapolis or Tennessee to win the division. Predicting both teams to make the playoffs in an extremely deep AFC is much spicier.
