Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel left the NFL Honors awards show in Inglewood, CA on Thursday night as the NFL coach of the year.
Vrabel won the award after leading the Titans to a 12-5 record and a second straight AFC South division championship.
The Titans really had no business being 12-5 and winning the division. Not with the inordinate amount of injuries Tennessee dealt with in 2021.
91 different players played for the Titans this past season.
That's a lot of adversity.
The Titans, under the leadership of Vrabel, were able to overcome the injuries and earn the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC. They also beat eight teams that finished the season with winning records (an NFL record).
Vrabel not winning the award on Thursday night would've been a massive snub. That's why I wasn't surprised to see that Vrabel received 28 more votes than the coach who came in second, Green Bay Packers head coach (and former Titans assistant under Vrabel) Matt LaFleur.
Here's the full breakdown of the voting.

While Vrabel was the clear choice for the award, I'm surprised to see that Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor only received two votes. Outside of Vrabel, I would've had Taylor as the NFL coach of the year. The Bengals were 4-11-1 last season. And now they're one win away from winning their first Super Bowl in franchise history. He absolutely deserved more votes than Lafleur and Las Vegas Raiders interim head coach Rich Bisaccia (who certainly did a good job in Las Vegas in a tough situation post-Jon Gruden).
I'm not sure who voted for New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. New England didn't even win their division this year.
Ultimately, the voters got it right and gave the award to Vrabel. And that's all that really matters here.
