The Tennessee Titans are parting ways with veteran WR Josh Gordon.
Gordon, 31, signed on with the Titans practice squad on September 1st with hopes of having a resurgence to his NFL career. While injuries to Racey McMath and Treylon Burks initially pointed to an increased role for Gordon with the Titans, opportunities were few and far between in Nashville.
Gordon, a former All-Pro, played just 24 offensive snaps during his two games with the Titans, only being targeted once.
Gordon received two standard elevations from the practice squad to the active roster, but after the Titans chose to elevate Dez Fitzpatrick over him against Washington, Gordon’s future in Tennessee didn’t look promising.
Gordon all but confirmed that Monday morning when he took to Twitter to thank the people of Nashville for their support this season.
The news would later be confirmed from Ian Rapoport that the Titans were releasing Gordon from the practice squad.
The two parties are going their separate ways and hoping the grass is greener on the other side.
The Titans could be getting Racey McMath (hip) back off Injured Reserve following the bye week, who they hope will provide a big jolt to their offense as a vertical threat.
McMath had a strong training camp, and if he returns healthy, he can be expected to assume a big role in the Titans WR core alongside Robert Woods and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.
