It is no secret that Titans fans are hungry for a new stadium in Nashville. On Friday afternoon, we got more insight into some details concerning that new stadium. Titans President Burke Nihill joined 3HL on 104.5 the Zone to discuss the current process.
Check out the full conversation below.
There was a plethora of info that Nihill both could and couldn't give regarding the new stadium. That's to be expected in a fluid process that has only just begun. A couple of big questions were addressed during the conversation, though.
Will it have a retractable roof?
This is a piece of info that all Titans fans as well as the team have plenty of interest in for the new stadium. As of right now, a decision hasn't been made concerning the roof. Nihill did mention, "From the research we have done, most retractable roofs are only open for 3% of the time." This points to the idea that the addition of a retractable roof basically turns many stadiums into domes since it is closed much of the time. The Titans President also noted that a roof isn't required to host a Super Bowl, but it is preferred.
What is the timeline?
Nihill gave plenty of insight into the timeline for both the plan and the construction of the stadium. Specifically, he said that they believe they could have a finalized plan in place by the fall of this year. Of course, that could change, but that would mean that they would have most, if not all, of the details about the new stadium nailed away in just a handful of months.
The construction of the new Titans stadium is a bit tougher to project. It is a long process, and it cannot be rushed. Nihill said, "A building could be done by 2026, but we will not rush to hit a deadline." The Titans nor their fans should want them to rush it, either. The city is growing at an unparalleled level already. Adding the best possible stadium for the football team makes the most sense for every side. They'll analyze every possible avenue to make sure the construction is both timely and optimum.
