The Tennessee Titans have a special safety tandem in Kevin Byard and Amani Hooker. The Titans have locked up Byard on a contract through 2024. Hooker is next in line to get an extension in the secondary, and it sounds like both sides are discussing it.
According to Terry McCormick, contract extensions for both Amani Hooker and linebacker David Long Jr. could come sooner rather than later. An extension for Jeffery Simmons will certainly be on the table as well. His price tag may make that process last a bit longer, though.
Hooker has played really well over the last two seasons, and the Titans have noticed. The fans have too as he has become a fan favorite on defense. He is a very underrated player nationally, and the numbers back it up.
He also plays many roles for the Titans. That may even increase the season after Tennessee lost Dane Cruikshank in free agency. He's shown flashes as a top safety in coverage, but he is a willing tackler in the running game as well. His speed and agility allow him to make plays few other players of his size can in the NFL.
Not to mention, Hooker and Byard work beautifully together. There is little doubt that they are a top safety duo in the league. They should be for years to come, too.
As the season creeps closer, expect the Titans and Hooker to try to get this deal done. Hooker deserves it, and the Titans need him.
