Tennessee Vols baseball runs into some early season on-field drama
The Tennessee Vols are still the “villains” of college baseball it appears
The Tennessee Vols ran into some early season drama on Sunday in their win against Gonzaga.
Tennessee, which has won 11 games in a row after an 0-2 start to the season, completed the series sweep of Gonzaga on Sunday.
The drama came in the bottom of the third inning when first baseman Blake Burke was hit by a pitch.
Burke was hit in the calf by a pitch from Ty Buckner just one pitch after the two players exchanged some words.
Tennessee's first baseman wasn't happy about being quick-pitched by Buckner (Burke fouled off the quick pitch).
Here's the video of the entire exchange, including the quick pitch (the second video):
Burke obviously didn't do anything wrong in that situation — which is why Buckner was the one ejected.
But that moment won't do anything to help Tennessee's reputation as the "villains of college baseball".
Of course, I don't think Tony Vitello and his players would have it any other way.
