Earlier this week, the Tennessee Vols landed one of their biggest recruits of all time, securing a commitment from 2023 five-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava.
For the last several days, there's been a lot of talk about the impact Iamaleava will have on the Vols when it comes to recruiting. The presence of Iamaleava could put Tennessee in the mix for several other elite recruits.
While the optics of landing Iamaleava are fantastic for the Vols and will certainly help the program moving forward, it's important to remember that Nico's biggest impact at Tennessee will come on the field.
Iamaleava isn't a recruit that's receiving a ton of hype just because of his last name. He's legitimately good. And he hasn't even come close to hitting his ceiling yet.
The California native has been one of the top performers at 2022 Rivals Camp Series events.
And that's why Rivals.com recruiting analysts Adam Friedman and Adam Gorney recently named Iamaleava as their top performer so far.
The new Tennessee commit has been arguably the best quarterback and one of the best overall performers at the early Rivals camps – and he was a late addition who only decided to show up a few hours before the camp. It didn’t matter. The 6-foot-6 Iamaleava has such a live arm, he loves to make the big-time throw and there is a smoothness and ease to his game that is rare to see.
The Vols are getting a truly special talent in Nico. He can make all the throws, extend plays, is highly competitive, and is a natural leader.
Everything about Iamaleava, so far, is elite.
Vol fans should get ready for some insane numbers from Iamaleava when he gets to Knoxville. Because the sky really is the limit for him in Josh Heupel's high-scoring offense.
