One of the 2024 recruits the Tennessee Vols would love to land is five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo.
Wingo, 6-foot-2/205 lbs from St. Louis, MO, is ranked in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 7 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 26 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.
The talented wide receiver is a player who can be used in a variety of ways. He can line up at running back if necessary, or he can blow by defenders using his impressive speed that he shows off while also running track in high school.
Unfortunately for the Vols, it appears that Tennessee is fading a bit in Wingo's recruitment.
Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gorney predicted this week that Wingo will commit to Texas, while also noting that Georgia and Missouri, along with the Vols, are in the mix.
Former Rivals.com recruiting analyst Mike Farrell suggested this week that Tennessee has "faded" a bit in this battle despite being the perceived favorite early in Wingo's recruitment.
Farrell also sees Texas as the likely landing spot for Wingo.
From MikeFarrellSports.com: I liked the Vols early in this one, but they have faded a bit, and now Texas has taken a strong lead over Missouri, Michigan, and Georgia with the Vols still hanging in. So why Texas? Steve Sarkisian is selling his success at Alabama with WRs, the hype around Xavier Worthy, and of course, Arch Manning, and it’s working. The move to the SEC doesn’t hurt. It’s not over yet, but the Longhorns are in the driver’s seat.
There's still time for Tennessee to swing the momentum in this recruiting battle, but it sounds like they have quite a bit of work to do to bring Wingo to Knoxville.
