The Tennessee Vols received some tremendous bulletin board material from one of their top rivals this week at SEC Media Days.
Alabama offensive tackle JC Latham met with reporters on Wednesday and he straight up called his shot for the 2023 season.
“We’re going to win it all. We’re going to the national championship, undefeated,” said Latham (via On3).
“Joe Moore (Award) and I want that Outland (Trophy), so it’s just every day is set in stone and everybody in the group, we’ve got leaders and a great spirit to the team so we know we are capable of doing it and know we’re capable of being great," added Latham.
That statement alone should give Tennessee plenty of motivation when they play Alabama this fall in Tuscaloosa.
The Vols should absolutely post that statement in their locker room this season as a reminder of what Alabama thinks they're going to do this season. And who knows, maybe Alabama will win it all while going 15-0.
But Tennessee should still use it as motivation. Sure, it's not like Latham is throwing shade at the Vols. This isn't an insult toward UT or any other program. But that statement from Latham should be posted everywhere in Tennessee's facility just so the players know on a daily basis what Alabama and other programs in the SEC are trying to accomplish in 2023 — which is exactly the same goal the Vols are trying to accomplish.
In other words, Tennessee's players need to know that anytime they're taking it easy, the competition is putting in work.
