The Tennessee Vols are one of five programs still in the mix to land a freakishly athletic edge rusher from Missouri.

Four-star edge rusher Jayshawn Ross recently revealed his top five schools and he included Tennessee, along with Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State, and Oklahoma.

Ross, 6-foot-4/220 lbs from Kansas City, MO, is ranked in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 21 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 8 player in the state of Missouri.

The talented recruit also plays basketball in high school and he reportedly runs the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds. It hard to find that kind of athleticism in a recruit that's already 6-foot-4 and 220 lbs.

For comparison's sake, former Alabama pass rusher Will Anderson, the No. 3 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, ran a 4.60 in the 40-yard dash at the draft combine earlier this offseason. Speed obviously isn't everything for an edge rusher, but it's certainly a positive attribute to have.

It appears that Oklahoma is the current favorite for Ross. But that could change soon. Ross hasn't visited Tennessee yet so there's a chance the Vols could make some noise in this battle if they can get him on campus.

"Haven’t been there yet and don’t know what to expect but I can for sure tell you that orange is no joke," said Ross to Rivals.com this week

Having an elite pass rush is essentially a prerequisite for winning a national championship. And Ross is the type of player that could help take the Vols' pass rush to the next level. Tennessee definitely needs to keep swinging in this battle.
