If you're a Tennessee Vols fan — or even just a college football fan in general — you've almost certainly seen UT quarterback Joe Milton's insane viral throw last month at the Manning Passing Academy in Louisiana.
Milton launched a ball 75-80 yards dead on the money to hit a wide receiver in stride.
The Milton critics — and there are plenty of them — have tried to dismiss this throw as nothing more than a novelty act. They like to point to the fact that no one is in pads and there are no defenders chasing the receiver or Milton.
And while that's true, I think those critics are missing one key thing about this throw — Milton completed this 75-80 yard bomb under a ridiculous amount of pressure.
I mean, there he is standing on a field in front of Peyton and Eli Manning, along with many of his peers, and stands packed full of spectators, and he nailed it.
Everyone — including Peyton — was expecting Milton to do something special and he crushed it.
Just imagine standing on a football field with Peyton behind you and the pressure that you'd feel to make just a halfway decent throw. It's kind of like an amateur golfer standing on the tee box across from Tiger Woods with a gallery full of people on both sides. I don't know about you, but I'd probably take out a row of spectators.
Milton is a special talent. And he has the right mindset — confident, but not arrogant — to excel in the SEC.
The Florida native has plenty to prove as Tennessee's starting quarterback this fall, but I can't imagine betting against him.
