The Tennessee Vols received some massive recruiting news on Thursday afternoon.

2024 four-star quarterback Jake Merklinger announced his commitment to Tennessee on Thursday during a ceremony at Calvary Day School.

Merklinger, 6-foot-3/195 lbs from Savannah, GA, is ranked in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 6 quarterback in the nation and the No. 9 player in the state of Georgia. He's also rated as the No. 55 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class.

Here's the scouting report on Merklinger via 247Sports' Andrew Ivins: An athletic quarterback prospect with a multi-sport background that happens to be one of the more experienced signal callers in the 2024 cycle. Not only has posted a 29-9 record as a starter heading into his senior season, but is also closing in on 700 live pass attempts. Has operated primarily out of a single-back spread attack on Friday nights and shown plenty of command in the huddle. Mobile and quick enough to turn a scramble into a chunk play, but looks more times than not to win from the pocket. Average arm won’t blow too many away, but can change speeds as a passer and understands how to utilize touch. Has also proven to be rather accurate on the move, at least when targeting the first or second level. No stranger to RPOs and is likely going to find the most success on Saturdays in a balanced offensive scheme that wants its quarterback to function almost like a point guard. Overall, should be viewed as someone that could eventually win games on Saturdays.

Tennessee now has six players committed to its 2024 recruiting class.
