Tennessee Vols true freshman defensive lineman Tyree Weathersby made quite an impression during first media session with reporters.
Weathersby, a former four-star recruit from Douglasville, GA, was rated as one of the top 300 recruits in the nation in the 2023 recruiting class.
Fans, however, were likely surprised when they saw Weathersby at the podium taking questions on Wednesday.
That's because the true freshman defensive lineman had the presence of an NFL player as he told reporters that he's at Tennessee "for a reason" while answering a question about adjusting to bigger and stronger players in the SEC.
Fans will have to wait to find out if Weathersby's impressive appearance will translate to success on the field. But it's certainly a good sign for Tennessee's future that the program is recruiting that types of players that show up from high school looking like they're ready to hit the field against SEC athletes (Weathersby didn't go through spring practice with the Vols so he doesn't have much time in the strength program yet, making his appearance even more impressive).
The Vols still aren't as talented as Georgia — the team that Tennessee is chasing in the SEC East — but they absolutely have enough talent on their roster to pull off an upset against the Bulldogs. And that's because the Volunteers are bringing players like Weathersby into the program.
