When folks talk about the Tennessee Vols' wide receivers, they tend to focus on Oregon transfer Dont'e Thornton or sophomore speedster Squirrel White.

Senior Ramel Keyton is also usually mentioned after he stepped up in a big way last season while Cedric Tillman was dealing with an ankle injury.

For whatever reason, it seems like USC transfer Bru McCoy is flying under the radar a bit ahead of the 2023 season.

McCoy, a former five-star recruit, caught 21 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns as a true freshman at USC in 2020. The California native was suspended at USC in 2021 before arriving at Tennessee in 2022.

Last season, McCoy caught 52 passes for 667 yards and four touchdowns. Those numbers took a backseat to Jalin Hyatt's big season while still showing McCoy's five-star potential.

McCoy isn't a burner like Hyatt, Thornton, or White, but he's a key part of Josh Heupel's offense thanks to his ability to move the chains and pick up tough yards after the catch.

While all of the attention is on Tennessee's speedy wide receivers, it could actually be McCoy that's in line for a huge season.

McCoy said recently (via the Knoxville News Sentinel) that he's on the "same page" as starting quarterback Joe Milton.

"Him (Milton) and I are very much on the same page," said McCoy. "We have a very good understanding of how one another thinks, what we're looking for out of each other. We've had offseason work together. We're both older guys, more mature, good understanding of the game. So I think we feed off one another and we're on the same page. It's going to be a good year".

As good as Heupel's scheme has proved to be over the last two years, it won't work unless the quarterbacks and the wide receivers have excellent chemistry. That's a big reason why Hendon Hooker and Hyatt were so successful last season — they were in lock step with each other at all times.

Based on McCoy's comments, it sounds like he has that same type of chemistry with Milton, which could lead to a massive final season at Tennessee for the former five-star wide receiver.
