I don't mean that in a positive way either. They aren't scaring opposing defense.
The Titans are scaring their own fans and probably ownership as well.
Ryan Tannehill probably won't return during the regular season. Accordingly, rookie QB Malik Willis will be the starter for the foreseeable future. The offensive line has suffered from horrible injury luck. The wide receiver haven't lived up to expectations.
One wideout has shown exciting flashes, though.
Rookie Treylon Burks has been a great target for whoever is at quarterback for the Titans.
Offensive Coordinator and the Titans' coaches aren't using him to the best of his abilities right now, though.
Burks is a tough tackle with the ball in his hands. His talent at the catch point is impressive as well.
He was notorious in college for his deceptive moves after the catch or on carries. That was in the SEC as well. With the Titans, we haven't seen them give Burks too many unique opportunities with the ball in his hands.
Giving Willis more chances to uncork it to Burks in one on one coverage could instill confidence in them both, too. The Titans need to take advantage of those chances if given them.
There have been minimal hand offs or quick screens to their best athlete at WR as well. That's mind-boggling. Defenses need to be forced to respect those sort of plays by Burks.
It's all just been a bit vanilla, and that's frustrating for Titans' fans.
With a backup QB in, Downing must make adjustments if he wants to keep his job.
The offensive line isn't giving Willis much time, and he's about as raw as you can be when it comes to making NFL reads in the pocket. Allow him to get easy completions more often. Burks can be the benefactor of those and make explosive plays happen for the Titans.
They need to throw on some Arkansas Razorback film of Burks over the next couple of weeks to prepare for their Week 18 matchup versus the Jacksonville Jaguars.
