Tennessee Titans star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons is putting in the work to bring more star talent to Nashville.
Less than an hour after future Hall of Fame linebacker Bobby Wagner mutually agreed to part ways with the Los Angeles Rams, Simmons was trying out some recruiting tactics on Twitter.
"Come on bro! Tennessee is Wonderful!!! I’ll help make your job a little easier as well!" wrote Simmons in a Tweet directed at Wagner.
Wagner is a six-time All-Pro that was selected to eight consecutive Pro Bowls from 2014-2021 as a member of the Seattle Seahawks. In both 2016 and 2019, he led the NFL in tackles, and he currently sits 9th all-time in tackles with 1,523.
Even at age 32 in his 11th career season, Wagner posted a career-high six (6) sacks in 2022 along with 140 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and two interceptions. He is still every bit of the All-Pro player he was with Seattle, and for what it's worth, Wagner has played 127 games over his last eight seasons (15.87 per year) and played almost every defensive snap for the Rams this year.
The reason for Wagner's release is simple. The Rams are simply not a contending team in their current form and are desperate to get under the cap. Meanwhile, Wagner wants to win. Prior to releasing Wagner, Los Angeles was sitting almost $15 million above the salary cap, giving them the 7th worst cap number in the league.
Is it likely Wagner ends up in Tennessee? No, but it's not totally impossible with the Titans releasing Zach Cunningham on Wednesday and linebacker David Long an impending free agent.
Even if it's just a pipe dream, you've got to love the effort from Simmons.
