The latest update in the DeAndre Hopkins sweepstakes is a really positive one for Tennessee Titans fans.
According to Mike Reiss, the New England Patriots reporter for ESPN, both the Titans and Patriots have made offers to Hopkins, and up to this point, it is the Titans that have been the more aggressive suitor.
"The Tennessee Titans and Patriots have made offers, the Titans have been more aggressive to this point and Hopkins hasn’t been in a rush to sign," Reiss wrote on Sunday morning. "One reason for Hopkins to wait a bit longer is to leave open the possibility of another team entering the mix, potentially increasing his market."
Last week, Jeremy Fowler told SportsCenter that both Tennessee and New England offer things that Hopkins likes and which team wins out will be determined by who steps up financially. Considering Reiss' report that the Titans have been more aggressive, it would seem Tennessee currently has the leg up.
But unsurprisingly, Hopkins is going to drag this process out as long as possible. If other teams get involved (Cleveland, Carolina, etc.), the price tag on his services will go up. That's the last thing the Titans want, but likely going to be a reality.
The Titans are serious about adding Hopkins to their roster and making a run at the AFC South in 2023, They just need to keep pushing the pedal to the metal and close this thing out. Signing Hopkins would completely change the narrative about this offseason.
