In Week 14, the Tennessee Titans simply did not get it done.
The timing of an embarrassing loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars could not have been much worse. Everyone knows that the Titans fired their general manager in the middle of the week last week.
They're in first place in the AFC South, causing some folks to question the timing of the decision. Regardless, what's done is done in Tennessee.
For weeks, the division has felt like its been over. The Titans had taken full control of it, and no other opponent seemed capable of making a comeback this season.
The Colts and Texans are still struggling mightily, but the Jaguars are certainly improving. They still have ground to make up, but now there's plenty more pressure on Mike Vrabel and the Titans.
Pass rusher Bud Dupree had some comments about the team's performance today.
Now, injuries are a part of the game in the NFL. Every team deals with them.
For the Titans, the injury bug has bitten them quite hard once again, though. They are one of the most injured teams in the entire league, according to multiple metrics. Yet, they have found ways to get wins when necessary to hold a division lead.
Dupree's point makes plenty of sense. It is extremely tough to gel as a unit when so many pieces keep rotating in and out due to injury. That difficulty cannot be understated.
The defense has played really well at times this year, even with tough injury luck.
The pass rush needs to get back to form soon, though. They aren't getting enough pressure on the QB, and the Titans' secondary is paying the price for it.
Not to mention, Dupree's past struggles with injuries give him plenty of backing. He and the other Titans' players know that they have to bounce back quickly.
The Titans have proven that they can overcome these type of injury issues in the past.
They must do it again in order to secure another AFC South crown. That must be their first goal before worrying about another playoff run.
