Late Sunday night, Michael Silver of Bally Sports wrote in a column that the Tennessee Titans have shopped Derrick Henry in trade packages over the last few days.

Silver's sources, cited as current NFL General Managers, listed Henry, Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson, Los Angeles Rams CB Jalen Ramsey, and Arizona Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins as the superstar names that had been circulating.

Here's a look at what Silver wrote about NFL stars involved in trade discussions:

"Keep an eye on this: If the divide continues — or worsens — the 26-year-old quarterback could absolutely try to force his way out by requesting a trade. To be sure, trade talk was rampant at the combine. According to my sources — all of them current general managers — Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry, Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey and Arizona Cardinals receiver DeAndre Hopkins are among the players who’ve been shopped in recent days." – Michael Silver, Bally Sports

The Titans would save over $6 million in 2023 in a Derrick Henry trade, but the push back from the fanbase for trading away a franchise icon would offset any monetary gain.

It's hard to see how trading Henry fits into the Titans' vision for a competitive 2023. The only scenario in which a deal seemed feasible was if the Titans committed themselves to a rebuild, which Ran Carthon has already said is off the table. If Tennessee is trying to win next season, how does moving away from Derrick Henry make sense?

Yes, the Titans need to become more balanced and find ways to not build around Henry. But he's still an invaluable piece that has a lot left in the tank if complimented accordingly. Tennessee's issue is not Derrick Henry, it's the lack of vertical threats surrounding Henry in the offense and the predictable manner in which they feed him the ball.

Now, the cap hit is a problem. Henry will earn a base salary $10.5 million in 2023 with  a cap hit of $16.3 million. That's a large chunk of money for a team that needs to rebuild it's offensive line, extend it's best defensive player, and find another stud wide out somewhere.

The solution, however, should be a restructure, not a trade. But even if the Titans and Henry can't come to an agreement on a restructured contract , they'd still be better off paying him and playing him than trading him.

May as well tear the whole thing down if it gets to that point.
