The latest injury update on Tennessee Titans wide receiver Racey McMath is cause for a lot of concern moving forward.

McMath was placed on Injured Reserve by the Titans at the end of training camp with a hip injury, which required him to miss a minimum of four games to begin the regular season.

Four games came and went, and the Titans did not activate McMath (or Elijah Molden) from IR, or designate them for return. The hope amongst many Titans fans was that five games of rest and the bye week would be enough to get McMath back in the offense for a big matchup with Indianapolis in Week 7.

That's no longer on the table.

Titans head coach Mike Vrabel spoke to the media on Monday, and was questioned about the status of a couple injured Titans players. When asked about McMath, Vrabel said firmly that there was "no chance" McMath returns this week, and gave a hesitant response of "potentially" when asked if he'd return at all this season.

What was once thought to just be a few weeks of a setback is now very clearly a more serious, and potentially season ending injury for McMath that is worthy of concern.

Not only will it have large implications on his development as a wide receiver after having a really impressive training camp, it also prevents the Titans offense from getting back one of the things they so desperately need; a deep threat.

McMath has game changing speed, and the Titans were making a point of targeting him deep down the field during camp. His return, even if he wasn't catching many passes, would at least open up the field and pose a threat to defenses.

Instead, the Titans are now left with just four healthy wide receivers on the active roster:

It's likely Dez Fitzpatrick gets another elevation opportunity this weekend, or perhaps they roll the dice on Clarksville native C.J. Board, who was signed Monday afternoon following the release of Josh Gordon.

Either way, not having McMath hurts, and the language used by Vrabel in the press conference feels like this could be far worse than anyone originally imagined.
