The Tennessee Titans are on the verge of making another splash in free agency with training camp quickly approaching.

As first reported by Jordan Schultz, veteran offensive tackle George Fant, who has previously played for the Seattle Seahawks and New York Jets, will be working out with the Titans in Nashville on Saturday. Sources of A to Z Sports are able to confirm this report.

Fant has spent time at both left tackle and right tackle over the course of his NFL career. With his workout coming three weeks after Titans right tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere received a six game suspension for violating the NFL’s gambling policy, it's safe to assume the Titans view Fant as an option to start at right tackle while NPF is out.

Fant grew up in Bowling Green, Kentucky and played his collegiate football at Western Kentucky University. The 30-year-old tackle publicly entertained the idea of joining the Titans and playing close to home over the weekend. Just hours after the DeAndre Hopkins news broke, Fant responded to a tweet about playing for the Titans with “all they gotta do is call.”

It sounds like GM Ran Carthon may have fulfilled that request and picked up the phone.

Adding some veteran depth at tackle would be a big move for the Titans given the current situation with Petit-Frere. Signing Fant would give Tennessee a plug-and-play replacement without needing to shake up the rest of the starting group or play someone out of position.

Fant has played in 83 games over the course of his NFL career and started in 60 of them. It can be difficult to find experienced depth of his caliber on the offensive line.

Schultz reported on Wednesday that “there is a good chance [Fant] signs, assuming all goes well.” That would be just another thing for Titans fans to get excited about before the 2023 season gets underway.
