Former Titan, and current Tampa Bay Buccaneer, Logan Ryan received a dose of reality in Thursday’s joint practice session.
In one-on-ones with the Titans’ receivers competing against the Bucs’ defensive backs, rookie Kyle Philips made Ryan look like he was playing twister on the practice field.
Drafted in the fifth round out of UCLA, Philips has been the darling of Titans’ camp. Seemingly every day clips like these surface of Philips dazzling in drills with his unique foot speed.
Ryan just happened to be today’s victim.
Titans fans can’t get enough of Kyle Philips content. His consistency on the practice field will undoubtedly yield a steady workload out of the slot in the regular season.
What makes this even sweeter is that it was Ryan in his crosshairs.
Most Titans fans will always have a soft spot for Ryan — and for good reason. His game-sealing pick six in Tennessee’s 2020 Wild Card win, and ending Tom Brady's tenure with the New England Patriots in the process, will not soon be forgotten.
However, Ryan made some unflattering remarks about the Titans last season while playing with the New York Giants. It was a bit of shock to the fanbase after Ryan and the Titans appeared to have split on good terms.
“I played in a franchise in Tennessee where the fan base was non-existent,” said Ryan, per Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. “You couldn’t even get fans to the game, you had to put tickets half off to get fans to the game.”
If Thursday is any indication of what is to come for Ryan in the 2022-23 season, half-price might be too steep of an entry cost for Bucs fans to pay.
Thursday's practice ended with punches thrown, concluding a heated week out at Saint Thomas Sports Park. The Titans will play host to the Bucs in Saturday night’s exhibition at 6 CT on NFL Network.
