More details have become available in the DUI arrest of Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Todd Downing, and according to a report by Daniel Smithson of WSMV, Downing told the trooper he was trying to get home to his family quickly because he had “been receiving death threats.”

This came after Downing was pulled over on Cool Springs Boulevard by the Tennessee Highway Patrol around 2:30 AM on Friday morning. Just moments after the Titans' team plane was scheduled to arrive back in Nashville.

The officer estimated that Downing was traveling between 90 and 100 miles per hour on the highway before officially clocking the vehicle at 50 in a 40 mile per hour zone and pulling him over.

According to the report, the trooper smelled alcohol upon making the stop, and noticed Downing's slurred speech and red eyes. Downing then admitted he had consumed beer before getting behind the wheel.

After a field sobriety test, Downing was taken into custody.

A few details still remain at large, including questions of Downing's BAC at the time of the arrest, and confirmation on if the beer he consumed was provided to him on the team plane.

The Titans still remain at risk and could face punishment from the NFL, who are conducting an investigation into whether the organization violated the league's policy against alcohol being available at team facilities.

Tennessee improved to 7-3 with a big win over Green Bay on Thursday night, but for now, the attention unfortunately remains on the details of Friday morning as they continue to be made public.
